Mercy & Justice Notes

At Lamb of God Lutheran Church, we are concerned about issues of mercy and justice within our society and abroad.  With such being the case, we have a team that regularly meets to discuss how we may live out our faith in service to others, as well as to attend to items relating to justice issues within our community and abroad.

We invite all who wish to join us to come and help us to find creative solutions to such concerns.  We meet once a month and as needed while working on various projects.  Our times are posted in the church calendar on the web and in the newsletter.

THE FAY BICCARD GLICK NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER

For the entire month of November, we will be collecting food and personal hygiene items which will be donated to the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center at Crooked Creek.  There is a high demand for items at the food pantry right now, please bring your donations with you to worship on Sundays so that we can help this worthy charity.

 CROP WALK

What does CROP stand for?

When CROP began in 1947 (under the wing of Church World Service, which was founded in 1946), the name was an acronym for the Christian Rural Overseas Program; its primary mission was to help Midwest farm families to share their grain with hungry neighbors in post-World War II Europe and Asia. Reflective of a program that for several decades has been both urban and rural, today CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty and identifies interfaith hunger education and fundraising events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by 21 CWS/CROP regional offices across the U.S.A.

When was the first CROP Hunger Walk?

On October 17, 1969, a thousand people in Bismarck, ND, walked in what may have been the first-ever CROP Hunger Walk -- and raised $25,000 to help stop hunger. Several other CROP Hunger Walks occurred soon thereafter, and before long there were hundreds of CROP Hunger Walks each year in communities nationwide.

This year's CROP Walk, held Sunday, October 19th was a wonderful success.  Like last year, we had perfect weather and an amazing turnout of 25 people from Lamb of God church.  Walkers from Lamb of God joined thousands of others across the country to gather contributions for Church World Service - CROP programs locally, nationally, and internationally.  CROP Hunger Walks help children and families worldwide -- and right here in the U.S. -- to have food for today, while building for a better tomorrow. Each year some two million CROP Walkers, volunteers, and sponsors put their hearts and soles in motion, raising over $16 million per year to help end hunger and poverty around the world -- and in their own communities.  Lamb of God raised about $600 this year.

If you still wish to make a donation to the CROP effort or if you haven't yet paid your pledged amount, please submit your payment to Lamb of God Church.  Checks should be made payable to:   CWS/CROP.  Thanks so much.

Peace,

Mercy & Justice Team Members
